Free home assessment saves money on energy bills

20 August 2009

Residents in Boroondara, Knox and Casey can receive a free energy assessment of their home as part of Sustainability Victoria's GreenHouse Project to save money and reduce carbon emissions, announced by Anita Roper, CEO of Sustainability Victoria.

"The GreenHouse Project makes it easy to create an energy efficient house by providing home owners with a tailor-made plan on the best way to save energy, and with information on rebates they may be eligible for to help them implement the plan," Mrs Roper said.

"Many people want to reduce their carbon emissions and there are some real financial reasons to do so," Mrs Roper said.

The offer of a home assessment is only available to the first 1,000 households in Boroondara, Knox and Casey so it's important to book early by calling the helpdesk on 1300 174 101 or visit www.resourcesmart.vic.gov.au/ghp.

'Residents can complete the assessment online or chose a 10, 30 or 60 minute in-home evaluation. As soon as it's completed, the old energy-greedy light bulbs can be replaced with new energy-efficient ones,' explained Mrs Roper.

Ongoing support for homeowners immediately after the assessment is provided via a telephone helpdesk and through emails about sustainability and government rebates and incentives to help them save even more energy and money.

The GreenHouse Project is provided by the Victorian Government through its agency Sustainability Victoria.

It is supported by Boroondara, Knox and Casey Councils with program partner Low Energy Supplies and Services (LESS), an Australian company that is an accredited provider under the Victorian Government's Energy Saver Incentive Scheme.
