Worm farms

Worm farming is a great way to recycle food scraps and anyone can do it regardless of the size of your home or where you live. Worm farms use special earthworms called compost worms that thrive on food scraps, garden waste material and even damp cardboard.

What are the benefits of worm farming?

  • Worm farms are small and easy to maintain.
  • Worm farms allow you to discard and recycle most food scraps effortlessly.
  • There is no need for large unsightly compost heaps.
  • Worm castings make great compost - perfect for the garden or potted plants.

Worms can eat about half of their body weight in one day making them an incredible waste disposal solution. A worm farm with an area of one square metre with around 10,000 worms will eat about 10 kg of food and garden waste each week.
