As of 8.30 am Australian Eastern Standard Time on Monday 22 June 2009, pre-purchase applications are no longer being accepted for the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program.

All pre-purchase applications submitted to Sustainability Victoria prior to this will be assessed according to the program guidelines.

Please note this only affects pre-purchase applications. The deadline for rebate applications is provided on your pre-purchase approval letter.

For further information, refer to the Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts website - see link at bottom of this page.

Renewable energy generation system rebate

Households and communities in areas not close to a main grid are eligible for rebates to support the installation of renewable energy generation systems.

The rebates are provided through the Residential and Medium-scale (RM) scheme under the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program. The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program is an Australian Government funded initiative.

Rebate amounts

Rebates of up to 50% (up to $200,000) of the capital cost of renewable generation and essential equipment are available to applicants that comply with the eligibility requirements and procedures outlined in the RM sub-program guidelines.

Applying for rebates

To apply for a rebate under the Residential and Medium-scale (RM) sub-program
1. Read the Residential and Medium-scale Program Guidelines (download below) and determine whether you are eligible for a rebate.
2. Discuss the energy demand and system size requirements with one or more designers of renewable generation systems (see link below).
3. Contact a suitable supplier and obtain quotes for your proposed renewable generation system. It is recommended that more than one quote be obtained.
4. Submit a RM Pre-purchase application form (download below) to Sustainability Victoria for approval with all required attachments prior to purchasing any equipment.
Applications will be assessed by Sustainability Victoria and approved if all requirements are met.
5. If the application is approved, the specified equipment can then be purchased and installed.
6. After the system has been installed, submit a RM Rebate application form (download below) to Sustainability Victoria with all required attachments.

If all requirements of the program are met, the rebate will then be paid to the applicant.
