Fleet maintenance
It is important to ensure proper maintenance of the fleet as internal combustion vehicles generate considerable amounts of air pollutant including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, particulates and nitrogen oxides.
Running a car that is not well maintained only increases the amount of pollution generated.
These gases contribute to greenhouse warming. Nitrogen and sulphur oxides may also contribute to the formation of acid rain.
Servicing cars regularly increases fuel efficiency and can save up to 5% on running costs. All vehicles should be regularly serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended intervals.
Fleet operators should consider purchasing carbon offsets. These offsets cover the residual emissions that remain after taking steps to minimise kilometres driven and using cleaner fuels in more efficient vehicles.
