National Solar Schools Program
The Australian Government's National Schools Solar Program (NSSP) helps schools to take practical measures to improve the sustainable management of their energy and water resources. The NSSP replaces the Green Vouchers scheme.
Schools should consider how the NSSP can support the implementation of their sustainability programs through a holistic approach that incorporates infrastructure, curriculum, operations and school-community partnerships. The most comprehensive way to do this is via the AuSSI Vic framework.
Grants for efficiency measures
Under the NSSP, schools are eligible to apply for grants of up to $50,000* for a range of energy and water efficiency measures including:
- installation of a minimum 2 kilowatt solar panels
- energy efficient lighting
- sky lights
- shade awnings
- solar hot water systems
- rainwater tanks.
*this sum may be different if your school has previously received funding through the Green Vouchers scheme
To qualify for the full $50,000 (GST exclusive), schools must install at least a 2 kilowatt solar power system. If no solar power system or a system of less than 2 kilowatts is installed, funding up to $30,000 (GST exclusive) is available to be spent on eligible items under the NSSP.
