Australian Greenhouse Calculator

Developed by EPA Victoria, the Greenhouse Calculator is a computerised scorecard that lets students calculate a home's greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs and identify potential savings.

Greenhouse Calculator features

  • A reference section that provides extensive information about the enhanced greenhouse effect and air pollution in general.
  • Animations of major scientific ideas to help students understand the mechanisms of key natural phenomena.
  • A range of Teaching Activities that cater for students in Years 5 - 10 with a range of learning abilities and styles.

A simple version of the Australian Greenhouse Calculator is currently available on the EPA Victoria website (see link at bottom of page). A complete version of the Australian Greenhouse Calculator  is available on CD-ROM  from CSIRO Publishing. The CD-ROM was sent to all secondary schools in 2002.

A new updated version of the complete calculator and all of the resource material will be available on the EPA Victoria website in 2008.

Greenhouse Calculator Activity Book

In 2003 the  Australian Greenhouse Calculator Activity Book was produced by DSE to complement the CD-ROM.

The book is designed to make the teaching materials on the Australian Greenhouse Calculator CD more easily accessible to teachers and their students. It contains three examples of teaching units and a selection of worksheets that could be used in the classroom.

The Activity Book is a free downloadable publication from the  Resources section of the Victorian Climate Change website.
