Resource recovery funding - Regional Towards Zero Waste Support Program
The Regional Towards Zero Waste Support Program is providing $2.1 million of funding to 18 strategic projects to reduce waste to landfill, improve resource recovery and create green jobs in regional Victoria.
The $2.1 million of funding contributes to the total project costs of around $4.5 million. This will strengthen communities, create green jobs and achieve environmental benefits such as reducing waste to landfill, recovering more materials for reuse or recycling into new products and reducing green and food waste sent to landfill that will reduce the amount of methane produced.
The Support Program is funded as part of the Towards Zero Waste Strategy which is a call to action for Victorian to minimise waste generated and maximise opportunities for recovering materials by 2014.
Priorities for the program include kerbside recycling improvements; organics processing; material recovery facility upgrades; local market development; recycling in public places, and the establishment or upgrade of regionally strategic resource recovery infrastructure.
