Resource recovery funding
Sustainability Victoria offers grant programs for resource recovery within the municipal sector and the commercial and industrial and construction and demolition sectors. The grant programs contribute to achieving the state's Towards Zero Waste (TZW) Strategy targets to increase resource recovery rates to 75% by 2014.
The programs support projects that increase materials diversion from landfill. The programs are funded through revenue raised via the landfill levy which is placed on all operating landfills in Victoria by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
2014 TZW Strategy Targets
- 65% Resource Recovery Rate - Municipal Sector
- 80% Resource Recovery Rate - Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Sector
- 80% Resource Recovery Rate - Construction & Demolition (C&D) Sector

Commercial and Industrial Recyclable Packaging Project
Sustainability Victoria has received almost $1.9 million of funding from the National Packaging Covenant (NPC) to divert an additional 50,000 tonnes of recyclable packaging from landfill by May 2010. The funding will support investment for new collection services for recyclable packaging to small to medium sized businesses, a sector where resource recovery has traditionally been difficult.
The Commercial and Industrial Recyclable Packaging Project closed 5 December 2008.
