Enabling sustainable precincts - new report & case studies

The 'Business models for enabling sustainable precincts' report provides information to assist policy makers, local government and developers to create sustainable neighbourhoods across Victoria.

Through a combination of desk-top research and interviews, the report investigates 43 business models across twelve countries used to deliver sustainable precincts. The research uses an 'innovation framework' to explore the maturity of the business models used to deliver sustainable precincts and includes:

  • Details of financing, risk management, and infrastructure and service delivery models for each precinct
  • An analysis of social, economic and environmental benefits (triple bottom line)
  • Outline of market and regulatory benefits and barriers faced by each project
  • Specific real-world examples as a demonstration of where approaches have worked before, their benefits and key barriers that had to be overcome to ensure success. This includes a description of how the approach may have changed throughout it's implementation, due to unforeseen barriers.

A copy of the report, along with the six case studies, is available via the Downloads section below.

The project was overseen by a Reference Committee including SV staff and representatives from the Department of Transport, the Department of Planning and Community Development and the Department of Treasury and Finance.
