500 Collins Street - a five star Green Star upgrade
The Kador Group's upgrade of 500 Collins has demonstrated to the property market what can be done to refurbish old building stock to achieve significant sustainability outcomes, namely a five star Green Star design rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
Central to Kador's success was the commitment to sustainability carried through at all levels of decision making and each stage of project implementation ensuring reductions in energy and water use and waste production. The commitment also respected triple-bottom-line principles during refurbishment with the building maintaining lease income and retaining tenants, and a pre- and post-occupancy study has found that now the resultant workspaces have led to a significant increase in staff productivity.
This project has been motivated by Kador's desire to give something back to the industry by demonstrating that sustainability and commercial success can go hand in hand in refurbishment projects.
